Scarlet Pearce has no idea who she is. In fact, for the first seventeen years of her life, she didn’t even know her last name.

Scarlet is on her sixth foster family and although it’s the best fit so far, she still doesn’t quite belong. Being around people is exhausting. She suffers from migraines and mood swings – not to mention, a recurring dream that haunts her night after night about a strange looking door.

Until one day, she sees that same door right in front of her. And when she steps through it, she is thrust over the threshold into another realm, a place entirely unlike anything she has ever seen. Just as suddenly, the door disappears behind her, cutting her off from the only place she had ever considered home.

Alone in the unknown world of Avalon, a land where the plants can heal, the birds play games, and the trees hide the most valuable of secrets, Scarlet meets Morgana, the otherworldly leader of the island who unveils the truth about who Scarlet is and where she came from. Scarlet is a Faye, a powerful race of people who were nearly decimated only a decade prior during the Shadow Wars. Her parents died bravely in battle, but not before erasing Scarlet’s memory in the hopes that she could lead a normal life.

What Scarlet doesn’t know is that Morgana didn’t bring her to Avalon solely for her own safety. There is a new war brewing, and somehow, Scarlet is at the helm of it all.  She doesn’t know who to trust or what to believe, but she slowly learns that the truth isn’t always what it seems. Luckily, she has the help of her newfound friends, Lena, Stiles and Ryker, and she begins training, pushing herself harder and harder every day. But there are also Fayes who make it clear that to them, she is an outsider. Scarlet feels herself torn between two worlds, neither of which fully accept her, but on Avalon, she has a place – she has a purpose.

It isn’t until the war finally arrives that Scarlet discovers the shocking truth about her past from the most unlikely of sources, and everything Scarlet has ever known is thrown into question.
